Michelle Riley

Chairperson and Manager –
Jidi Jidi Aboriginal Corporation

Leader Biography

Michelle is a Wadjarri woman from the Upper Gascoyne River of Western Australia in the Murchison district. Her connection to Country is strong. She grew up on country with heritage Culture and Lore with her parents and Elders, they all worked on stations, and she only went away from Country for educational purposes.

Thanks to Eddie Mabo and their Elders, the Nharnuwhanga, Wadjarri and Nharla people were able to secure determination of their tribal area in 2000, which their PBC Jidi Jidi Aboriginal Corporation manages on behalf of its members.

She has worked tirelessly for her mob since 1992, doing administration and even teaching kids at the school of the air. She still works for them today as their Leader, Chairperson and Manager. They are only a small family group who manage Yulga Jinna Community, the pastoral lease Mulgul Station and Jidi Jidi Aboriginal Corporation. They aim to carry on the legacy of their Elders who have passed on to them, to protect, practice Heritage, Culture and Customs and improve the lifestyle of their people.
