Leader Biography

Nicole Huxley is a proud Gudjala woman from Charters Towers with over 30 years working in community and business development, Indigenous housing, governance, and community advocacy in urban, rural and remote communities. She manages Jumbun Limited and Jupiter Mosman Housing Company, and serves as Chairperson of the Gudjala People’s RNTBC. Nicole’s work spans everything from protecting Country and native title rights to keeping roofs over people’s heads. She also sits on the ATSIHQ Board and has held leadership roles with the North Queensland Land Council and First Nations Bushfood Alliance Australia. She is driven by a deep belief in self-determination and in the power of Aboriginal leaders to build futures on their own terms by taking ownership of the industry in this country.

Community Economic Work

Helping build a genuine economic future for our community — one that is sustainable, self-determined, and grounded in culture. At Jumbun Limited, I work to develop a community microgrid for energy independence and build a regenerative community model supported by GEN. Our enterprises include a Telstra call centre, a community store, and a bushfood venture developed in partnership with a First Nations group in Canada — connecting culture, Country, and commerce in a way that creates real economic opportunity. At Jupiter Mosman Housing Company, I am driving a housing model that delivers social, affordable, and financially sustainable outcomes — and working to merge two organisations to create a stronger, more capable entity ready to serve our community long into the future. Through Ngrragoonda Aboriginal Corporation, I’m focused on building the governance foundations and assets our Gudjala nation needs to be truly self-determining — so that the economic work happening today creates lasting benefit for our people and Country.
