Meet Adelle

I run a domestic and commercial cleaning business that has been operating for about nine years now. We service the Central Coast and Newcastle region. I was operating my business during covid which became challenging and contacted Many Rivers for assistance. Before starting my own business, I had previous experience as a cleaner at other companies. I was referred to Many Rivers via AtWork Australia.

When I was looking for work, there weren’t any jobs on offer that I was interested in, so I decided to start my own business. If I can, I will hire my staff through AtWork because I am passionate about giving everyone a chance. I want to create a friendly work environment for all types of people.

Working with Many Rivers

Tod has assisted me with the human resources part of my business. Tod also supported me in making the hard decision to change bookkeeper which resulted in better cashflow for the business.  The thing I found most useful about Many Rivers was the financial advice. Changing my bookkeeper was better for my business. I didn’t receive a loan from Many Rivers and I currently have eight casual employees.

Biggest Challenge

The biggest challenge has been staffing issues. I was pretty much running the business with just me and one other person for the majority of the time I’ve had the business. For the past three years, I’ve had lots of staff. There was a time when I had about ten staff, but I had to let a couple go because their attitudes were wrong, and they didn’t apply themselves to the job.

Biggest Success

Adelles-Cleaning-Solutions-Many-Rivers.jpgMy staff are happy and my clients are really happy which is very rewarding for everyone. We have regular work at a variety of places including, domestic houses, offices, and we also regularly clean a local BnB and bridal suite at the vineyards.

Biggest Change

We are so busy; we are just flat out. But even though we are busy, having my own business has given me flexibility. If I need to take time off, I take time off – a day here and there if I want to. I just went to see my daughter in another state, so I could take a few days off and get my staff to cover my part which was great!

Future Goals

I’d like to hire more women. It’s been really hard to find people to work, but ideally, I’d like to balance out my workforce with some more women in my team.
