Today we are introducing you to Chris, the small business owner of Dunedoo Pet Supplies and Nix and Nax in Dubbo, NSW.
Chris has plenty of experience working in pet shops. He took the leap into owning his own pet business after buying a new home that has a shopfront attached to the house – the opportunity was on his doorstep! Chris has been working with his Many Rivers business coach, Danny to make his dreams a reality.
“He is just a big help with the computers. He shows me how to operate it and teaches me as we go. He doesn’t just do it for me. He shows me how to do it so that I can do it by myself down the track.”

It has been only a few weeks since I opened the doors! My business is Dunedoo Pet Supplies, and I sell pets and pet supplies. I have been working on this business for nearly two years, and I only contacted Danny, my Many Rivers business coach about 6 months ago to support me to bring the business to life.
I have worked in quite a few pet shops over the years. I found Many Rivers online. I was looking for a bit of help and business coaching to get started. I was going to get a loan, but I decided against it. I had just enough money for what I needed.
It was that time of life for me to consider my own business. I wanted to start making money for myself rather than for everyone else. I bought a house which has a shop at the front of the house. It is a bit of a package deal. I walk out of my loungeroom and step right into my shop. It was a package deal!
Working with Many Rivers
Danny helped me with all the computer side of things and worked with me on my cashflow, business plan and finances. He comes over roughly every fortnight, sometimes it is by phone but mostly it is one-on-one, face-to-face in my store.
He is just a big help with the computers. He shows me how to operate it and teaches me as we go. He doesn’t just do it for me. He shows me how to do it so that I can do it by myself down the track.
The biggest challenge has been working out what stock to have in store. It was hard to know what people do and don’t want before I opened. I’ve worked it out to a degree since I opened, but as we go, we will work out what is the biggest sellers and what isn’t.
I got the front door of my pet and pet supplies store open! With a low income over the last few years, it was hard to get all the stock. The first week that I opened the sales were great. However, this week has been pretty slow, I think it is because everyone is saving up and getting ready to go to The Royal Show which is in Dubbo this week.
Biggest Change Since Starting Dunedoo Pet Supplies and Nix and Nax
I have a lot more responsibilities, I am loving it! I am one of those people who like to keep busy, so this works well for me!
I would like to expand the business as I make money. I could get a bigger outlet. It is only a small building but down the track I am planning to extend it.
Thank you Chris for sharing your Dunedoo Pet Supplies and Nix and Nax business journey. We look forward to working with you as your business journey continues.
