My business is Tired Glitter Co which is a motherhood and lifestyle brand that provides tired mums with colourful self-care gifts for mums, featuring inspirational designs by Australian artists. I officially launched in May 2019. It took me a while to really form my business idea.
I made contact with Many Rivers last year when Parents Next told me that I would be eligible for support with Many Rivers. Prior to that I had a business selling organic coconut products online. I closed it down due to post-natal depression. Before that my work experience was in retail and I had a copy writing business about six years ago too.
This time, starting my business has been so different compared to when I started my last businesses. There has been a lot of lessons learnt from them including spending a lot of money that I didn’t need to spend. I think it has also been great seeing other business owners online who started with humble beginnings.
Becoming a mum really drove me to want to find something for myself. It is important to have my own identity outside of motherhood. It is something that I can achieve, feel proud of and it fills my cup because it is something that I am passionate about. It helps other mums to do the same thing.
Working with Many Rivers
I have received a loan from Many Rivers which helped me buy stock and helped me with my initial launch. I have Jamie, my Many Rivers business coach to bounce ideas off. When my husband gets home from work and I throw ideas at him, he just does not get it. It is helpful to have someone who is a bit more knowledgeable about the business side of things.
Financial support was the most useful support that I have received. I would not have been able to get my business off the ground without this. I used my Many Rivers loan to go towards purchasing start up stock.
Just getting sales is a big challenge. I hate talking about sales because I want to focus on the customer journey. Realistically I need sales to survive. I am so passionate about it that I would continue without sales if I could.
I have had a lot of successes along the way. Jules from Married At First Sight shared one of my shirts when I first opened. I guess one of my biggest successes is that the community is very engaged. It is a nice vibe between the followers on Facebook and Instagram. The people who are buying are repeat customers. The aim that I had going into it was to create a following of women in a tightknit community.
The most positive thing that I can think of is the flexibility. I home school my children at the moment and having the opportunity to home school them and spend time with them while they are little has been really good.
Future Goals For Tired Glitter Co
Gosh, I have so many goals! I would love to have a multimillion-dollar empire. I would love to start a not-for-profit to help mums in the long-term. Short term I would love to have a physical retail space.
