In the third month of this video series, we are catching up with Ming and Morgan to hear about their small business journey throughout August.
Last time we caught up these small business owners, they shared challenges their businesses were facing while they were unable to meet with their customers face-to-face. This month, we hear what has changed now that Western Australia and the Northern Territory’s social distancing restrictions have eased.
Checking in with Ming | Illustrator and Writer, Mega-soar-us | Alice Springs, NT
Last month, Ming was working on a YouTube channel, starting a podcast and finding new ways to connect with her community while being unable to connect with them in person. We check in this month to see what Ming is doing now that social distancing restriction have eased in Alice Springs.
“When the doors opened after COVID-19, I found that I had a lot more opportunities to start talking about the book and do story time with children.”
Ming has been working with some cafe owners to run art workshops and promote Mega-soar-us again.
She has been invited to run art workshops at the Light Festival in September. One new challenge for Ming is that she must find ways to reinvent the workshops in order to follow Government health regulations and recommendations.

Checking in with Morgan | Art Experience, Open Hands Creative | Perth, WA
Last month, Morgan was finding new ways to engage with her customers online by selling DIY kits on Esty and engaging her community with the ’30 Day Drawing Challenge’.
This month, we check in with Morgan to see what has changed with COVID-19 restrictions easing in Western Australia.
Morgan has noticed a big jump in the way that her business is functioning now in comparison to earlier this year. One new challenge is that she is learning to find a balance between the online aspect of her business and the in-person idea.
The online side, which flourished during COVID-19, has now died down because people are eager to get outside and experience an event. Morgan wants to work on ways to continue to grow this in addition to the in person events of her business.
“We’re excited for the future because we have so many exciting creative workshops coming up.”
