Meet Breannan Tisdell, the small business owner of “Beneath The Bark Collective” based in Mount Lofty, Queensland.
Breannan runs her own small business called “Beneath The Bark Collective” which sells keepsakes and personalised gifts made out of wood and wood engravings. She is a proud Aboriginal woman and a proud descendent of the Wurundjeri people of Woi Wurrung.
“My business coach from Many Rivers, Jamie, helped me with several things like creating a business plan, managing cash flow, and providing essential tools like receipt books. Jamie also guided me in keeping up with social media posts and setting short-term goals for my business. He has been really helpful and supportive with my business ideas and plans.”

Breannan’s Business
I started my business early last year in 2023. My business is about making keepsakes and personalised gifts which are made from wood or wood products and are timeless. I sell wooden engraved plaques, keyrings and boards for different occasions such as birthdays, Easter, Christmas, baby showers, first day of school and so on.
What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers?
I had been a massage therapist for four years and it was very draining on the body and had fixing timings with no flexibility to look after my family especially my three young children.
Working with Many Rivers
I think it was middle of last year when I saw a Facebook advertisement and then I reached out to the Many Rivers team.
With respect to what has been the most useful assistance from Many Rivers, I think it has been a combination of everything, Jamie’s help with the business plan, the financial side of things and the overall business coaching.
Did you get a loan from MR? How did you use the loan?
No, I did not get a loan from Many Rivers.
Do you have any current employees? If so, how many employees? Are they full-time or part-time?
Its just me running my business.
Biggest Challenge
Promoting the business. Going to events and markets. My first market is this coming weekend so I am hopeful that it will go well, and I will be able to create awareness and sell some of my items.
Biggest Success
I would say having the courage to step outside from the comfort of my home and going out and organising stalls at markets to make my business successful.
Biggest Change
Having more freedom and flexibility. Now, I can balance work and life better. It’s easier for me to go to my kids’ school events, and they get to spend more time with me.
Future Goals
Right now since my business is still quite new, I just want to make sure my business is doing well money-wise. I want it to make it more financially stable by thinking about ways to re-invest the profit back into the business.
Thank you, Breannan , for sharing your business journey with us. We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavours and business success.
