John’s Business
I run a pressure washing service, cleaning windows, pavements, roofs, and yards. I also do soft washing, mowing, and waste removal. The business started in February 2024.
What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers? Why did you want to go into business?
I was a bricklayer for 30 years, cleaning residential and commercial bricks. Later on, I had back problems due to which I continue working full-time and as a result, I started this business of my own. I’m also certified by Think Brick Australia.
Working with Many Rivers
Uncle Richard referred me to Many Rivers. Shelley was my first business coach, and now Anthony has taken over from her as my coach.
Why did you want to go into business?
I wanted to do something less physically demanding and use my experience in cleaning to run my own business.
What services did you receive from Many Rivers? How did it help?
Shelley my business coach from Many Rivers guided me in the right direction, helping with advice and opportunities like attending the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Expo. Now, Anthony is now helping me with my business plan, setting goals, and tracking key business metrics.
What did you find the most useful about the assistance from Many Rivers?
The encouragement and support from Shelley and Anthony. They listen to my ideas and guide me to stay on the right track.
Did you get a loan from MR? How did you use the loan?
No, not yet.
Do you have any current employees? If so, how many employees? Are they full-time or part-time?
It’s just me and my wife.
Biggest Challenge
Probably learning to manage the computer side of the business, especially taxes and paperwork.
Biggest Success
The biggest success would be that although my business is new, I am able to get steady work through my contacts in the construction industry. Many builders I knew referred clients to me. But it’s been harder to find residential customers for soft washes and house cleaning.
Biggest Change
My health has improved, and I’m happier and more relaxed. I enjoy running my own business and I am grateful to Many Rivers support.
Future Goals
In the short term, I want to grow the business, hire a couple of employees, and offer more services like window cleaning.
Thank you John for sharing your business journey with us. We wish you the best of luck with future endeavours and business success.
