Mr. Terry Winters, AM, FAICD, Chair

Chairman | Melbourne, VIC

Part of the impetus behind the formation of Many Rivers prior to 2007 while he was Chairman of Opportunity International, Terry was appointed as a Director on 23 September 2010, and Chairman of Many Rivers on 1 March 2024. He is also Chairman of Converge International Pty Ltd, Australia’s largest mental health services provider.

Terry has previously served as Non-executive Director and Chair of several listed and unlisted companies and charities and has over 30 years’ experience in the operation and governance of microfinance organisations including Opportunity International where he served as Chairman in Australia and several years as Global Chairman of Opportunity International Network. Until recently he also served as a director of TSPI Development Corporation Inc, a Micro Enterprise Development NGO in the Philippines.

Nathan Hawkins

CEO | Sydney

Nathan has over 15 years’ experience in leadership roles across education, marketing, not-for-profit and philanthropic sectors. After an early academic career phase in public health research and teaching, Nathan moved into community-based work designing, implementing, and evaluating Government-funded public health initiatives.

Since then, he has led charities working to tackle disadvantage both nationally and internationally. He has also provided strategic marketing consulting to a variety of Australian-based companies and most recently, has helped develop growing major and principal gift philanthropic programs, working with some of Australia’s most significant philanthropists. Nathan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) (Hons).

Nathan was appointed Head of Business Development in 2021 and CEO in December 2023.

Sorita McGrane, ACEcD

Non-Executive Director | Moreton Bay

Sorita McGrane is a Proud Torres Strait Islander woman living and working in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland. A passionate Economic Development Professional, Sorita is committed to the growth of local business, First Nations Economic Participation and Regional Development, delivering these outcomes through her current venture, Sorita McGrane Consulting.

Sorita honed her knowledge and experience in economic development across Local, State and Federal government levels, working across various sectors including biomedical, space economy, resource recovery, food and agribusiness, workforce development and Indigenous business.

Sorita has a background in Vocational Education and Training, serving ten years as a Senior Leader at TAFE Queensland. She is no stranger to small business, previously owning, with her husband, business ventures in money management, training and coaching, project coordination and real estate.

Passionate about First Nations Economic Participation, Sorita delivers training to Economic Development Practitioners across Australia in Indigenous Entrepreneurship and Economic Development for the accredited training program of Economic Development Australia (EDA) and is an EDA Board Director.

Mr. Harry Turner, MBA, Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)

Non-Executive Director | Sydney

Harry Turner is a Partner and co-founder of the Talanton Impact Fund, an Impact Investment Fund focused on job creation through investing in small and medium enterprises in Sub Saharan Africa.

Harry has had a 30-year career leading cross-cultural teams primarily in Australia, Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, with experience leading global teams for large commercial companies (Macquarie Bank and Andersen Consulting) and for global social impact organisations (Opportunity International, OikoCredit and now Talanton).

For 4 years from 2011 to 2015 Harry served as COO and CEO of Opportunity International’s Banking Group where he was responsible for the operations of Opportunity’s 12 majority owned retail banks and finance companies across Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Under Harry’s leadership, Opportunity International developed a strategy focused on improving operating performance, ensuring mission focus and growing the customer base. He is on the Board of Opportunity’s $50M Microfinance Investment Fund in India – Dia Vikas.

Harry is very excited about bringing these skills and experiences to businesses and communities closer to home.

He has an MBA (with distinction) from the University of Oxford and a BS in Computer Science (Honors 1st class) from the University of NSW, Australia.

Mr. Darren Godwell, MHK MAICD FAIIA

Non-Executive Director | Brisbane, QLD

Appointed as a non-executive director on 17 October, 2024, Darren Godwell brings to Many Rivers nearly 30 years of experience in senior leadership and a strong commitment to supporting Indigenous enterprise and economic development.

Darren is one of Australia’s most well credentialed Indigenous executives.  For +25 years, he has launched and led Indigenous companies to profitability.  Through his career, Darren has become an experienced change-agent and built Indigenous interests in economic and regional development.  For 4 years, Darren served as an Advisor to the World Bank and has executive education at both INSEAD and MIT Sloan Management School.

He maintains extensive networks in business and Indigenous affairs both domestically and internationally.  He has pioneered negotiations for Indigenous inclusions into Australian trade agreements, supported DFAT, NIAA, APEC and the World Economic Forum.  In 2022, Darren was appointed a Fellow of the prestigious Australian Institute for International Affairs in recognition of his efforts in international affairs.  Former-Minister Ken Wyatt MP appointed Darren co-Chair of the National Indigenous Reference Group (IRG) and Industry Champion to advise on Government’s Roadmap for Indigenous Economic Policy

He is a proud descendant of the Kokoberren peoples of Cape York, Queensland.

Julian Martin

Executive Team | Sydney

Head of Business Development

Julian was previously the CEO at Making Waves Foundation where he took the organisation through a significant growth phase. As a senior manager he has served several organisations including Opportunity Intonational Australia where he first saw the impact of microfinance. He has recently joined Many Rivers as the Head of Business Development.

Ms. Kristal Kinsela, MBA, BEd (Adult Education), MAICD

Non-Executive Director | Port Macquarie, NSW

Appointed as a Non-Executive Director on 19 August 2021, Kristal is a proud and passionate Indigenous business owner and leader, Meet the Mob podcast host and author. Through determination, resilience and hard work, Kristal built her professional career and successful consultancy business. Today, she channels her experience and energy into helping others succeed.

A descendant of both the Jawoyn and Wiradjuri nations, Kristal brings her personal story and over 18 years of business expertise to every project. She has worked with well-known global businesses and all levels of government to drive their supplier diversity efforts, helping develop procurement plans, up-skill teams and positively impact communities. She authored the first book published in Australia on Indigenous business procurement, “Supplier Diversity How”, based on her proven approach.

A multi-award winner, Kristal was recognised as a Telstra Best of Business NSW Finalist in the Indigenous Excellence category, she was awarded the 2022 Women’s Agenda Setter of the Year Award, was acknowledged on the 2019 AFR 100 Women of Influence list, and was winner of 2019 Indigenous Defence Leader of the Year, 2017 NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year and 2017 Supplier Diversity Advocate of the Year.

Andy Rushton

Senior Manager Community Economic Development | North East Australia

Andy has over 18 years of community development experience in Australia. He held the position of CEO for a welfare service in Victoria, followed by several community development senior management appointments, including 3 years in a remote Aboriginal community in Northern Territory and more recently 5 years with a child welfare service based in Far North Queensland. Andy has extensive remote employment and business enterprise development knowledge and hopes to combine his expertise and experience for the betterment of remote communities. Andy is currently completing a degree in Anthropology.

Dean Candler-Szabo

Executive Team | Sydney

Head of Operations.

Dean has over 20 years of project management and process design experience working as a former IT Management Consultant. He has been involved in project implementation in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia/New Zealand. Dean joined Many Rivers in March 2014.  He leads Strategic Project delivery and manages the organisational infrastructure to support service delivery and operations. Dean was appointed Company Secretary from 2018-2021.  He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) (Hons) and a Bachelor of Commerce.

Bridget Centenera

Executive Team | Sydney

Head of Community Economic Development.

Bridget has worked in microenterprise and community development for 18 years. She has worked extensively in South-East Asia, South Asia and Africa; engaged directly with communities and with Microfinance Institutions, building capacity and developing programs. Bridget became involved with Many Rivers in 2009; since 2015 she has been leading the Many Rivers’ Community Economic Development Program with Indigenous communities in regional and remote Australia. She holds a BA and Masters in International Studies (Development Studies) and Postgraduate Certificate in Accounting and Finance.

Simon Pachos

Executive Team | Grafton, NSW

Head of Finance.

Simon joined Many Rivers in June 2017 and is also the Company Secretary. He brings many years of experience in accounting and finance, mainly from the mining sector. Based in Grafton, Simon manages the back office, is CPA qualified and holds a Bachelor of Commerce.

Sharon Prosperi

Executive Team | Sydney

Head of People and Culture.

Sharon is a strategic and innovative HR Executive with over 30 years of experience in human resources, including a decade working in the not-for-profit sector.

With a genuine and down to earth approach, Sharon is a collaborative leader who thrives on supporting companies and people achieve their best. Sharon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organisational Psychology and Health Education and joined Many Rivers in July 2022.

Alicia Rackett

Regional Manager Community Economic Development | South East Australia

Alicia has 30+ years of business experience across diverse industries including television production, event management, community development and horticulture. With extensive experience in project management, business development and communications she has worked with corporate, government, and NGO partners around Australia, and in India, Thailand, and Vanuatu.

Born and raised in Tasmania, Alicia is passionate about achieving positive and sustainable outcomes for communities in her home state. She has post graduate qualifications in Management and Business and a Masters in Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development.

Linda Li

Executive Team | Sydney

Executive Assistant to CEO.

Linda is a senior Executive Assistant with more than 25 years’ experience working internationally and locally with C-suite executives in global industries spanning FMCG, luxury, magazine publishing, media consultancy and local government.

Linda applies her passion for excellence, creative problem-solving and diverse skills set to serving as an enthusiastic team player whose aim is to make things happen and make things as smooth and pain-free as possible. Linda joined Many Rivers in April 2021.

Chris Palmer

Regional Manager | Cairns and Far North Queensland

Chris is an experienced and successful ‘Hands On’ Sales, Brand and Commercial Management specialist with 30 years of experience and success driving revenue growth across various sectors, including Aviation, Tourism and Travel and Publishing. During his time, he has worked with Indigenous communities in Cape York and Torres Strait and all three levels of government to develop easy yet strong travel connection links to Cairns, allowing the delivery of essential services into communities throughout the region.
Chris’ strength is being a strong and accomplished strategic negotiator with a firm understanding of the modern business market, exceptional communication and networking skills, ensuring a consultative sales style and natural problem-solving abilities. Chris has an MBA from the University of Queensland Business School with an emphasis on marketing, organisational behaviour, strategic management and supply chain systems.

David Sharkey

Community Economic Development Manager | Western NSW

David brings over two decades of experience in Indigenous health, employment, and community enterprise development, having worked extensively across most of Australia. His career highlights include leading region-wide initiatives, such as Apunipima’s Health Action Teams across 11 Cape York Aboriginal communities, the first Defence Indigenous Development Navy Program in Australia and serving as Operations Manager for Community Enterprises Australia, the not-for-profit enterprise development arm of the My Pathway Group.

In addition to his professional experience, David has a strong business background as an owner-operator, contractor, and Director of an Indigenous not-for-profit. While his long-standing relationships in Cape York and the Torres Strait reflect his deep commitment to these regions, he is now fully dedicated to fostering close connections and making a meaningful contribution in Western NSW. David’s three children are of Aboriginal descent, adding a personal connection to his work with Indigenous communities.

Gina Ezard

Regional Manager Small Business Development | Australia

Gina has extensive experience across a diverse range of industries and roles including community development projects and social enterprise initiatives. Gina is qualified in business management and as a youth worker and has held managerial and consultant roles in the community sector.
Gina was appointed Regional Manager Microenterprise Development in 2022 and Regional Manager Small Business Development in 2024.

Tito Gonzalez

Small Business Development Manager | South East Queensland

Tito has over 30 years of diverse business experience, starting in civil engineering and transitioning through accounting and business administration. He served as financial director at a manufacturing company before successfully running his own import and retail business for over two decades.

Navigating challenges like the 2008 financial crisis and the 2020 Covid pandemic demonstrated his resilience and adaptability. With a Diploma in Financial Counselling, a BCom and MBA, he combines his experience with a commitment to helping entrepreneurs succeed through personalised coaching and support.

He looks forward to providing Small Business Development support to clients from Rockhampton to Central NSW.

Anthony Whish-Wilson

Small Business Development Manager | Tasmania

Anthony has over 25 years’ experience in Banking & Financial Advice with various roles throughout Tasmania. He also has an extensive background in small business, owning & operating farming businesses. Anthony holds an Advanced Diploma of Business Management and a Diploma of Financial Advising. He enjoys the outdoors and has been active in Community sports for many years.

Colin Long

Senior Manager Microenterprise Development | Western Australia

Colin has a dynamic career of experience and has lived in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. His experience varies from industries including dairy farming, social media marketing for the hair and beauty sector, and the steel industry. He has successfully operated his own business three times, developing each business from a start-up enterprise to a mature company.

Colin was a Many Rivers business coach in Roma QLD for two years before taking up the same role in Perth three years ago. Colin is highly motivated to make a difference and help people succeed.

Colin’s strength is his confidence around technology after working in the sector and owning a social media marketing business. He is also always looking on the bright side and believes that this is a very helpful skill to have. “If someone tells you bad news there is always good news to go with that.”

“Working with Many Rivers, you start off with clients – but you end up with friends. Seeing them succeed is what motivates me everyday. Seeing what they do. Sometimes I see what they are doing and I think ‘wow I could never do that’. We have our own skill set to help them succeed but then looking at what they do is so motivating. So I don’t have favourite memories, I just think most of what I do creates memories. It’s about the people.”

Colin’s business tip is to make sure your social media posts are quirky and have captions that make the customer want to go and purchase the product or service you offer. Colin recommends books by the author, Mick Michalowicz. He has read quite a few and says that they are really good and practical. He also listens to a lot of podcasts on personal development as well as business managed as he thinks that his role as a Many Rivers business coach is just as much about supporting the personal development of his clients as it is about supporting their small business goals.

Colin was appointed Regional Manager Microenterprise Development in October 2022.

Matthew Beare

Regional Manager Microenterprise Development | Southern NSW

Matt has a background in financial services with over 15 years’ experience in management, business development and sales.

Matt  successfully operated his own business in hospitality and retail. He has lived on the South Coast of NSW for the past 15 years and has a passion to support people to realise their potential in their small business and to help their community thrive.

Matt was appointed to Regional Manager Microenterprise Development in October 2022.

Tom Hulse

Community Economic Development Manager | West Kimberley

Tom has been helping businesses develop and grow throughout his career.  He has run marketing consultancy agencies in London and Australia, working with businesses of all sizes from multi-nationals to sole traders.

For the last seven years Tom has been providing business, marketing and tourism consultancy services in the NW region.  With a BA Hons Degree in Tourism & Planning, Tom has specialised in the industry his whole career including work with numerous tourism, accommodation, transport and hospitality operators in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. Tom is a passionate advocate for indigenous tourism in Australia.

Marcus Tanke

Regional Manager Community Economic Development | South West Australia

Marcus comes from an extensive retail business management and financial services background and has worked throughout many metro and rural locations around South Australia. Based in Ceduna, Marcus is passionate about bringing Many Rivers’ support to his local communities and helping those communities thrive through economic development.

Tiani Cook

Regional Manager Microenterprise Development | Southern QLD

Tiani is an enthusiastic and passionate advocate for rural and remote families, having firsthand experience in raising and educating a family alongside business, study and community engagement in Outback Australia. Tiani has owned and managed various businesses and NFP’s for over 23 years. She studied Agribusiness and is an ARLP C25 Alumni of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation. Tiani joined the Many Rivers family in May 2019 as the Microenterprise Development Manager (MEDM) in Alice Springs NT and then moved to Gympie and South Burnett in QLD.

Tiani was appointed Regional Manager Microenterprise Development in October 2022.

Shelley McCarthy

Microenterprise Development Manager | South Coast NSW

Shelley has a strong background and extensive skills in retail, business and vocational training and assessing. She has worked as a vocational trainer and assessor for many years, teaching retail, business, WHS, foundation skills and vocational pathways to students with complex backgrounds and barriers in language, literacy, and numeracy.

Moreover, Shelley has also been part-owner, with her husband and operated three small businesses – an online/markets business, a trade-based business and vendor business. She has lived her entire life in the Illawarra region and has a strong connection with the community and a love of the people and the area.

She joined Many Rivers in 2020 as the Microenterprise Development Manager and she caters to clients within the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region of South Coast, NSW.

Matt Scott

Community Economic Development Manager | Adelaide, SA

Matt is a certified economic development professional (ACEcD) with over 25 years of experience within the travel and tourism industry and has worked in over a dozen countries across five continents.

Matt has managed one of Australia’s top tourism destinations, developed products for some of the world’s most awarded tour operators and managed operations in complex and dynamic international environments. He has worked with governments, NGOs, charities and private businesses of all sizes.

Qualified with an MBA focused on sustainable tourism, a Master’s in Strategic Management and Leadership, Matt also holds an undergrad in International Relations and Journalism and numerous certifications in sustainable operations and implementation.

David Adams

Community Economic Development Manager | Cairns and Far North Queensland

David has worked for 18 years as a corporate manager with a background in sales and marketing as well as owning and operating a number of successful businesses in retail, event management, commercial cleaning, restaurants, student accommodation, groceries and organic farms.  He has worked in Australia, The United States, Colombia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom. For the past 6 years he has lived full time in remote indigenous communities in Colombia, Northern Territory and Queensland with a focus on community development and training, economic development and stakeholder collaboration.

He holds a Masters of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Accounting

Luke Silvester

Community Economic Development Manager | Eastern NSW

Luke Silvester is an experienced Economic and Community development professional based in Wollongong, supporting communities on the East Coast of NSW. From 2008 until recently, Luke was based in remote Northern Territory Communities. With over two decades of professional experience, Luke has always focused on improving the economic and social lives of those he is working and living alongside of. Luke holds a Master’s degree in Applied Anthropology and another in Economics, giving him a unique insight on the challenges facing disadvantaged and marginalised communities and the real positive impact that economic and business development can make to the lives of those in the respective communities. Just prior to commencing work with Many Rivers Luke graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, demonstrating his commitment to ongoing professional development and his desire to make a positive impact to the lives of Indigenous Australians.

Fraser Chapman

Community Economic Development Manager | Alice Springs, NT

Fraser has been working more recently in Executive Management and Financial Counselling in Alice Springs, and working closely with many community members in remote Aboriginal Communities that surround the area.

He has previously had a diverse and extremely interesting history of entrepreneurship and successful business ownership which is well worth asking him about. Fraser’s experience and understanding of the Anangu in Central Australia is of particular value, especially Arrernte, Walpiri and Luritja Peoples.

Fraser brings with him a wealth of knowledge and life experience to Many Rivers as a Community Economic Development Manager in the Alice Springs region.

Charles Fisher

Community Economic Development Manager | Townsville, QLD

Charles has spent most of his working life in North Queensland and after a long and successful career in the banking industry he is now using his skills to help Many Rivers’ Clients and Communities achieve their dreams. Charles’ two passions are rugby league football and social justice for all Australians. He is still actively involved in his football club in Townsville. Charles started at Many Rivers as a Microenterprise Development Manager and was appointed to Community Economic Development Manager in August 2023. He believes everyone should have the opportunity to participate in the economy and looks forward to supporting communities in North Queensland build and grow economic opportunities.

Clare Merritt

Community Economic Development Manager | Katherine, NT

Clare Merritt comes with a wealth of experience in various industries all in the name of service and support of others.  She also has experience of running a successful business in Queensland for many years whilst raising 3 children.

Four years back Clare moved to the Northern Territory and it has been a life changing experience for her because she found the passion to work with Aboriginal communities. Clare feels that the love for country and culture mixed with a business and entrepreneurial background is a great combination to support communities in the Katherine Region.

Clare has joined Many Rivers as the Community Economic Development Manager and she will be based in Katherine NT and will cover the South of Darwin region.

Tui Magner

Community Economic Development Manager | Karratha, WA

Tui brings with her a wealth of knowledge and skills to Many Rivers with experience in real estate, commercial leasing, sales and housing. More recently, she has been working for 5 years as General Manager for Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) where she gained deep understanding of Native Title, Governance and Management of Community Representative Organisations of which MAC represented 5 traditional language groups in the Pilbara.

This incredible work across many different development areas and industries, along with her passion for the Pilbara Region and supporting the empowerment and self-determination of the Traditional Owners of the area are just a few of the things that will make Tui such a wonderful addition to Many Rivers and the CED Team.

Tui has joined the CED South-West Team as the Community Economic Development Manager.

Bronwyn Barnett

Community Economic Development Manager | East Kimberley

Bronwyn Barnett has many years of experience working alongside Aboriginal community groups in Western Australia whose mission it is to create and sustain economic and social and emotional well-being for their local families and communities.

She is passionate about supporting Aboriginal-led initiatives which promote capacity building and self-determination. She also has strong experience with managing and coordinating place based community programs, setting up community based NFP and charity organisations, as well as ongoing governance and small business ownership and management. Bronwyn has a heart for community, and a keen interest in cross-cultural healing initiatives and programs.

Shaun Norman

Community Economic Development Manager | Perth, WA

Shaun is focused on challenging the status quo and fostering change and brings diverse experience from Western Australia. This includes time in Perth’s metropolitan, remote communities in the Kimberley region, and now the South West.

His journey spans economic development in local government, entrepreneurship in health, and community projects.  Recent business consultancy work in the renewable energy, tourism, and space industries, especially with Indigenous owned ventures, deepened his understanding of native title and cultural preservation. Shaun’s expertise in sports coaching and community initiatives, including founding a charity, underscores his commitment to community well-being.

Shaun has joined Many Rivers as a Community Economic Development Manager and will be working with Communities across WA (outside of Pilbara and Kimberley regions). Shaun wants to contribute to a world where his two sons (aged 6 and 3) see equal opportunities for all to reach their full potential as being normal.

Richard Morfaw

Microenterprise Development Manager | Mildura, VIC

Richard has over 25 years’ business and management experience, including managing Mildura City for 5 years and acting as Operations and Marketing manager for a chain of 15 hotels in Papua New Guinea. Most recently, Richard successfully owned and operated three registered training organisations in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Richard is passionate about making a difference in his community.

Garry Harris

Regional Manager Microenterprise Development | Tweed Coast and South East QLD

Garry started at Many Rivers in 2011 as a Microenterprise Development Manager in Western Sydney and was appointed to Regional Manager Microenteprise Development in October 2022.

Garry has a passion to see people become personally and financially successful and expects to see these benefits achieved for Many Rivers’ clients through microenterprise development program.

Ricky Roth

Microenterprise Development Manager | Sydney

Ricky has over 15 years’ experience owning and operating successful small businesses. He started a professional development events and conference business before trying his hand at retail, where his niche toy business forged a reputation as an industry icon.

Born and bred in Sydney, he is enthusiastic about the role small businesses play in helping local communities thrive.

He is passionate about helping people start business as a way to climb the socio-economic ladder and provide positive generational change.

Tod Wills

Microenterprise Development Manager | Central Coast, NSW

Tod Wills has over 30 years experience in  Banking and Finance, both in leadership, retail, commercial, credit and operational roles. He is passionate about small business and his local community, and has supported local charities including Lifeline, Coast Shelter, Sunnyfield and Meals on Wheels.

Through his involvement with local rugby, he has been influential in shaping the lives of both Indigenous and Non Indigenous youths from the Frank Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre. Tod has a Diploma in Financial Markets, is Level 2 Rugby Union Coaching accredited and is currently a Board member of Central Coast Rugby Union.

Tod is looking forward to making a difference to lives in the disadvantaged sector, and helping these clients reach their true potential. Tod’s region includes Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.

Ofelia Benn

Microenterprise Development Manager | Grafton, NSW

Ofelia has over 25 years experience in financial, administrative and human resource management environments as well as many year in the banking sector in the Philippines. She has also operated as a sole proprietor in a mortgage brokerage and bookkeeping business. Ofelia has always been involved in local community development organisations and continues to be an active participant in the changing perspective of community support in the Clarence Valley.

Gary Lawrence

Microenterprise Development Manager | Bunbury, WA

Gary joined Many Rivers in 2020 as the Microenterprise Development Manager for the Southwest region of Western Australia.

With over 25 years of experience in banking and finance, Gary has worked across metropolitan Perth and various regional and remote rural areas of Western Australia. During this time, he developed strong management and analytical skills, assisting farmers, retailers, and small business owners to achieve their goals by focusing on business planning, cash flow management and forecasting to optimise profitability.

Also, as General Manager of a Western Australian liquid fertiliser company, Gary successfully navigated the complexities of running a small to medium-sized business. A particularly memorable chapter in his career was working as a Drillers’ Offsider on a drill rig in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia. This role provided a unique experience, surrounded by nature, wildlife, and stunning landscapes, and proved to be both inspiring and rewarding after years in leadership positions.

Alex Silva

Alex Silva brings 19 years of business coaching experience to Many Rivers, having directly coached over 120 business owners ranging from small businesses to large brands such as Subway, Inxpress Logistics and Donut King. Alex has started and managed his own independent small businesses as well as operating as a franchisee, and is well versed in the franchise industry – winning the Area Manager of the Year Award at his time at Chicken Treat in Perth from the FCA (Franchise Council of Australia).

Alex understands firsthand the hurdles that small businesses encounter such as making enough money to pay the bills, trying to develop a predictable stream of customers and juggling the demands of running a business with personal and family life. Alex’s vision has been to coach small business owners so they can have a greater quality of life and better serve their customers, employees, their own families and the community around them.

Mrs. Trish Botha, BA Christian Ministry (Intercultural), MBA

Non-Executive Director | Perth, WA

Trish was born and raised in Queensland. After marrying her South African-born husband, Paul, 25 years ago, they have lived and raised their sons in Perth for the last 21 years.

Trish boasts a varied professional background, encompassing roles in banking and finance, as well as co-founding multiple community programs and a WA-based charity. Trish served as the CEO for 7 years, making a substantial impact on thousands of families in Perth’s northern suburbs. During her tenure, Trish spearheaded the creation of a nationally recognized Job Active program targeting chronic unemployment.

Trish took this community development experience into a 3-year term, working with two Federal Government MPs. She returned to her passion for creating economic opportunities and strengthening community development in 2019. Her consultancy group engages across the resources, primary industry and renewables sectors to create economic opportunities, particularly across the Indigenous community.

He has over 20 years’ experience in this field and prior to joining Many Rivers, he has worked in the Far West Coast of South Australia managing a Business Incubator Pilot assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands people.

Darwin is also an experienced business owner having grown several businesses including a management consulting business which he operated for seven years.

Leigh Aitken

Leigh Aitken has more than 30 years’ leadership and management experience, having worked with national and local organisations across a variety of business sectors. Leigh has first-hand experience as a sole trader, previously operating two small businesses. From 2005 to 2022 he ran a coaching and training consultancy where he personally worked with more than 9,000 people, including small business owners, to develop their business, leadership and management skills.

Leigh is passionate about helping others to become the best version of themselves and this is reflected in his personal life where he volunteers with Operation Flinders – an Adelaide based charity that provides a wilderness therapy program for young people experiencing life challenges. Leigh has personally led 14 expeditions and more recently volunteers in a leadership capacity with the organisation.

He has a strong connection with business over an extended period. Steve was mostly recently the owner of two businesses one of which specialised in marketing consulting and providing tailored strategies to increase sales and profitability. Lisa Blainey

Lisa has led a varied and interesting life, growing up in three countries. With her formative years in New Zealand, she developed a deep appreciation for the land, the traditional owners, and the culture. Her love of art, design, creative and wellness, echoes back to this time.

Professionally, Lisa has a diverse experience as she has worked in all levels of government, and for small, large, and medium corporations, mainly in the marketing, communication, and events space.  Previously, she ran a partnership business for 5 years in the wellness industry, this grew rapidly to cover the Asia Pacific.  Lisa also ran her own marketing agency in Maleny and developed innovative campaigns on local food, local food tours, magazines and events designed to boost her client’s revenue and help the start up local food community.

Lisa joins Many Rivers as the Microenterprise Development Manager for Bundaberg and the North Burnett, QLD and is passionate about capacity building and creating opportunities for everyone to have the chance to try new things and develop fresh skills.

Vicki Parry-Taig

Vicki’s has been based in Cairns for the past 30 plus years.  Having run her own upholstery business for some ten years before drawing on her extensive retail background to work for a non-for-profit managing stores and providing training and support throughout the cape and Torres Strait to 28 remote islands and communities. She has lived and worked on Waiben (Thursday Island) in the Torres Strait as well as Kowanyama on the western side of Cape York. Vicki is passionate about positive support and empowerment, to encourage all to reach for their full potential.

She has joined the Northern QLD team of Many Rivers, and will be working in the Western Cape, NPA and Torres Strait.

Haley Molloy

Haley has been working in the Mackay Community Service Sector providing both Small Business and Personal Financial Counselling Services and Financial Literacy Education Groups.  She has worked closely with many community organisations and has an extensive knowledge of resources available in the Mackay region.

She also worked in the Whitsunday and Bowen Basin Region for the past 20 years and is highly experienced in finance, counselling and administrative areas. Alex previously owned and operated his own Jaycar Electronics retail business for over ten years and was a bank manager at Bendigo Bank prior to joining Many Rivers. Karen Kemp has lived on a rural property all her life on the outskirts of the Hilltops Region and is a proud Wiradjuri woman. Karen has an extensive career in employment, education, training , business & economic development, strategic planning, relationship management and small business consulting.

Karen has run several small businesses in hospitality, accommodation services and the transport industry which are all still going strong today.

Karen has worked across all levels of government and spent 11 years as a State appointed Director on the Southern Area Health Board. Karen graduated from Charles Sturt University and loved the challenges of studying and working full time. Karen has extensive experience working for not-for-profit organisations organisations and is able to bring these diverse skills to her new role with Many Rivers as a Community Economic Development Manager in the Southern NSW-ACT region.

Jessie began her career in tourism, which led her to working in Mongolia where she developed her interest in tourism as a pathway to community economic development. After returning to Australia, she has lived and worked in remote Indigenous communities in Arnhem Land and the Kimberly where she was a Business Manager/Mentor for a community owned tourism business. She moved to Tasmania from Brisbane with her family in 2007 and has held various roles at the University of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government and more recently in natural resource management.

Jessie has joined Many Rivers as the Community Economic Development Manager and she brings diverse skills and experiences from various fields, including the travel industry, university marketing, small business, investment attraction and communications.

Greg Arnott

Community Economic Development Manager | North East Australia

Greg brings over 20 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector and has joined Many Rivers as the Community Economic Development Manager for North East Australia, covering Arnhem Land, West Daly, and Darwin.

He has a strong background as an executive in local government, statutory bodies, and not-for-profit organizations, including previous experience as the CEO of a disability service provider. Greg also has significant board experience and developed expertise in corporate governance, with a focus on financial sustainability, organizational culture, risk management, and governance.

Throughout his career, Greg has worked in corporate and community services roles where he led consultations with diverse stakeholders, negotiated complex agreements, and managed long-standing disputes. Having lived and worked in remote communities across the Northern Territory’s Top End for over two decades, Greg is passionate about supporting organizations in reaching their goals.

Amelia Salmon

Community Economic Development Manager | Southern QLD

Amelia has extensive experience in the field of community economic development, with leadership experience in not for profit management, social enterprise development, and private business.

Prior to joining Many Rivers, Amelia was the Executive Manager of the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre, working closely with a range of stakeholders in the Logan area on a whole of community wealth-building project.

Amelia has a background in local and International community development and first learnt about community economic development, working in a number of large-scale community enterprises at Gram Vikas, India. She and a group of colleagues started spiral community hub coop in 2001, which innovated and supported many early-stage community enterprises, a number of which are still operating today. Amelia has extensive Board experience and is a co-founder of the Qld Social Enterprise Council and a former Chair, the first peak for Social Enterprise in Australia.

Amelia has a Masters in Local and International Community Development Practice and is an alumni of the School for Social Entrepreneurs.

Timothy OReilly

Community Economic Development Manager | North East Australia

Tim has joined Many Rivers to serve as the Community Economic Development Manager in the North East Regions. With over 20 years of experience working in remote and Indigenous communities across northern Australia, Tim began his career in the Kimberley Region, leading extended camping tours after earning a degree in Australian Environmental Science. Later, he moved to Cape York to take on a community economic development role, focusing on Indigenous tourism by running cross-cultural tours and training Indigenous guides.

In another chapter of his career, Tim managed the Torres Strait Maritime Pathways Project, working across the 16 inhabited islands of the Torres Strait. More recently, he spent time in East Arnhem Land advancing community fisheries projects and managing Indigenous Protected Areas in Cape York.

Based in Cairns, Tim enjoys travel, adventure, and the great outdoors.

Joff Crabtree

Joff has close to two decades of experience in technology enablement, entrepreneurship (and ‘intraprenuership’) at all levels from government, and corporate sector, to non-profit organisations, small business and community projects.

Joff has a deep understanding of the ever-changing demands on business owners, and shares his knowledge and experience in business planning, strategy, digital marketing and design thinking.

Kristy Board

Kristy is an active member of the South Burnett and Gympie regions with decades of experience in business development and stakeholder engagement gained through a diverse career, including owning her own multi award-winning business in Beauty Therapy, and working across private and public sectors supporting business development. In 2022, Kristy was humbled to be awarded Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network (QWRRRN) Community Builder of the Year for her work in building and connecting organisations to market.

For the past 10 years, Kristy has worked in Economic Development, supporting business development within the South Burnett through her roles in local government, volunteering for multiple organisations in her effort to support Food and Agritourism Development and as General Manager of Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation.  Kristy is committed to individual, business and community mentorship and capacity building. She is passionate about connecting people with people, people with ideas and people with opportunities. Rob Rutten brings more than 25 years of experience working in small businesses in remote and regional areas.  With a diverse background including agriculture, software, websites and tourism Rob thrives on new challenges and connecting with people.

Originally from the west, Rob has lived in Far North Queensland for the last 23 years. He and his partner live in Cairns with his two young children and enjoy exploring this diverse and wonderful part of our world.

Delys Gebert

Delys Gebert has more than 25 years extensive experience in business development, supporting others in their business journey and for herself.  She managed the Chamber of Commerce in the Peel Region of WA, assisted a not-for-profit to set up a micro financing venture in Cambodia, and has in recent years worked with Traditional Owners of an Indigenous corporation as the Deputy CEO in Derby, and desert communities as their Community Development Advisor.

Kathleen has extensive experience in the corporate, community development, entrepreneurship and coaching sectors. Her background includes working across the the Asia Pacific region in marketing for international media organisations, starting and running several small businesses and individuals in making sustainable career changes.

She is passionate about helping her clients discover their strengths, build their resilience and develop themselves as part of their business coaching journey.

Kathleen holds a degree in Business Management from the US where she completed her tertiary education and has worked in Malaysia (where she is originally from), Hong Kong and Sydney prior to settling in Melbourne.

In her spare time, she enjoys taking street photography, exploring art galleries and simply hanging out with her rescue dog.

Michael Kerr

Michael has joined Many Rivers to serve as a Community Economic Development Manager in the Far North Queensland region. Michael brings extensive business experience, having owned and operated businesses across the country. He has served as both a Councillor and Mayor on the Douglas Shire Council. During his tenure, he was also a Board Member on the Regional Queensland Council of Mayors and Chair of the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils, collaborating with Indigenous councils and organisations to gain governance experience.

Michael is actively involved in community organisations and is a member of the Institute of Community Directors. Michael’s dedication to ethical governance and community enhancement drives his efforts to inspire collaboration and innovation. He is passionate about fostering a culture of excellence and mentorship for future leaders.

Ric Halse

Ric Halse is a qualified Urban and Regional Planner with a degree from the University of the Sunshine Coast and over 15 years of experience in local government. In previous executive management roles, he oversaw a team of more than 40 staff, specialising in strategic planning, project management, and administering grant-funded infrastructure programs. With extensive leadership experience, including a former CEO role, Ric has led major planning reforms and operated his own consultancy specialising in land development.

Having lived in Kalgoorlie, WA, for 12 years, Ric is deeply connected to the community, where he and his wife Jessica have raised their two sons. Passionate about fostering strong, inclusive communities, he is committed to ensuring development benefits everyone. Outside of work, Ric enjoys playing golf and exploring new technologies.

Laurelle Neugebauer has an extensive experience of over 8 years experience in private and public organsiations, serving organisations such as the United Nations Development Program, and the United States Aid Agency in Timor-Leste. Laurelle also has 2.5 years in the start-up space working with technology companies and entrepreneurs from idea all the way through to product launch and scalability. Laurelle holds a bachelors degree in International Relations and Business, and seasonally teaches Foreign Policy Analysis at Curtin University. She is a creative and strategic thinker always on the look out for new ideas and opportunities in the marketplace.

She has joined Many Rivers as a business coach based in the Southern WA and SA region and is eager to provide small business support to potential clients in the area.
