Meet Keisha Anne Mitchell, the small business owner of “KAMRA Films” a photography and videography business based in Taree, NSW.
Keisha is a proud Aboriginal woman from Biripi (Taree). She has always had a love for videography and photography and capturing moments that will last a lifetime. Keisha’s love for filming started at a young age when she would always make films with her family and friends and create different little stories up. Since 2023, she has started to take her brand KAMRA films seriously and started to get out more involved within her community by filming sporting games, community events, special events such as birthdays, creating funeral slideshows, graduations, calendar holidays and so on.

Keisha’s Business
KAMRA films is a videography and photography service that caters for everyone. We capture and tell stories of the Indigenous culture, Sports, Business branding/awareness, family, maternity and couples shoots, weddings and elopements, and so much more! I’ve always loved filming and photography, capturing moments, and telling stories. I started my business. KAMRA films in early 2024 when I filmed my brother’s football games. Since then, I’ve worked with many organisations like Taree Universities Campus, the Biripi Aboriginal Corporate Medical Center, Wingham Pizza and More.
What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers? Why did you want to go into business?
Before I made contact with Many Rivers I had been working on my business and filming my brothers and little sisters football games and creating short films of them and their teams. I grew up in Taree, NSW with my parents and five siblings. There aren’t many Indigenous filmmakers or photographers in my community, and I noticed that sports events here weren’t being filmed enough to help athletes get into NRL pathways.
Working with Many Rivers
Someone I knew referred me to Many Rivers, and I met my business coach, Bruce, in July 2024.
Why did you want to go into business?
I wanted to turn my passion for filming and storytelling into a career and help share the stories and the deadly talents in my community. Also, to show that being an Aboriginal female filmmaker and creative is achievable and that we can do and be anything we put our minds to and to inspire the next generation!
What services did you receive from Many Rivers? How did it help?
Bruce has helped me structure my business and given me ideas on how to run it better. He’s guided me through the paperwork and behind-the-scenes aspects of running a business. We meet once or twice a month, and I always learn something new from him.
What did you find the most useful about the assistance from Many Rivers?
The guidance on how to run a business has been invaluable; learning about networking, collaborating with others, handling paperwork, and connecting with clients. The business coaching has made a big difference for me.
Did you get a loan from MR? How did you use the loan?
No, I didn’t get a loan from Many Rivers.
Do you have any current employees? If so, how many employees? Are they full-time or part-time?
It’s just me.
Biggest Challenge
As an Indigenous filmmaker, it can be challenging to find acceptance in the community as there are no female Indigenous filmmakers in my community. Also, learning how to run a business and working in a male-dominated field like videography has been tough.
Biggest Success
I feel that I have gained a lot of knowledge about running a business and have become more well-known in the community, especially in sports. Networking and collaborating with new people and clients have been a personal and professional win for me over the last few months.
Biggest Change
I have grown closer to my family as they have been incredibly supportive of me and my business.
Future Goals
In the short term, I want to focus on storytelling and building a solid structure for my business. In the future, I see myself traveling across Australia, sharing Indigenous stories and capturing talents, especially in sports and athletics.
Thank you, Keisha for sharing your business journey with us. We wish you the best of luck with future endeavours and business success.
