Meet Chloe and Dan, partners and business owners of “DC Glass and Screens” a small family-owned business based in the Newcastle and Hunter region, NSW. Dan is a trade qualified glazier, with over eight years of experience providing quality glazing services across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, and the Hunter region. While, Chloe is the administration leader, with an exceptional eye for detail and focus on friendly and efficient communication and support to clients.

Chloe and Dan’s Business
As the name of our business suggests, DC Glass & Screens is a professional glazier services business based in Newcastle, NSW. Our business provides comprehensive glazier services such as glass repair, glass wardrobe doors, shower screens/doors, security doors, mirrors, windows/door units, pet doors and fly screens.
We officially started our business in July this year. My partner, Dan is a trade qualified glazier, with over eight years of experience providing quality glazing services across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, and the Hunter region. While I take care of all the administrative tasks of the business with an exceptional eye for detail and focus on friendly and efficient communication and support to clients. Our business is a local family business, and we take pride in providing personal service to all of our clients with a friendly and no nonsense approach.
Working with Many Rivers
Before contacting Many Rivers, I was a full-time stay at home mum and before that, I worked as a cleaner, telemarketer and different odd jobs. My partner, on the other hand, has been working as a professional glazer since the last eight years.
I would say the most useful assistance from Many Rivers has been our business coach’s support to develop our website and business plan. We had absolutely no idea on how to start with a business plan or the website, but Sandra came to our rescue in both areas.

Did you get a loan from MR?
We haven’t gotten a loan from Many Rivers. We might think about getting a loan maybe at a later stage to grow our business.
Do you have any current employees?
For now, it is just me and my partner, Dan running the business. I guess hiring somebody will definitely be on the cards at a later stage when we start getting more work.
Biggest Challenge
I guess the biggest challenge for us right now is that we are running our business from a small shed at our home. It would have been a lot easier if we have a separate and bigger space to run our business, but we can’t afford to rent out a place right now. Hopefully in the future when we start getting more work and profits, we will move to a bigger space to get rid of this challenge.
Biggest Success
First of all, I feel that despite our limitations, we pushed and challenged ourselves to start our own business so that’s a big success for us. Secondly, the fact that we are getting calls and work from our clients is another achievement. We received five calls in a day last week and honestly it felt great that our business is growing, as more people are reaching out to us for our services.
Biggest Change
Umm, the biggest change for me and my family is that I am no more a full-time stay at home mum. My kids were really used to having me around all the time but now things have changed as I have to contribute my time to the business as well. I do all the administrative work for the business such as paperwork, cashflow, taking calls, business plan, booking appointments while my partner does all the pretty much labour since he is the one who is a professional glazier.
Future Goals
I would just like us to have the business running well enough so that we can financially support ourselves and our kids and live a decent life.
