Joshua’s Business

I run a pressure washing business through which I offer cleaning services to my customers in Cairns. With my special pressure washing equipment and skills, I clean tough stains, grease, mould, and dirt on various surfaces like polished concrete floors, pavements, garage space, tiles, and sandstone. I also clean walls made of bricks, driveways, overhead roofs, and pipes.

I have been operating my business for the past three years now and I am quite happy with my regular customers who reach out to me after every six months or one year for cleaning their houses, office spaces and I get real estate jobs as well. I run my business through word-of-mouth recommendations and also through a little bit of Facebook marketing. I do not have a shop or office space as of yet because I work out of my vehicle which is a Ute. I have my pressure washing equipment and everything at the back of my UTE and I am good to go for any cleaning job in my area.

What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers?

Before getting in touch with Many Rivers and starting my own pressure washing business, I was working as a pressure washer for my previous boss for four years.

Why did you want to go into business?

I got the inspiration and motivation to start this business because during my previous job, I managed to learn the skill of pressure washing and I was confident that I can start and successfully run my own pressure washing business.

Yes, I did receive a loan of $10,000 from Many Rivers and I have successfully repaid almost the entire amount.

Do you have any current employees? If so, how many employees? Are they full-time or part-time?

Its just me managing the business.

Biggest Challenge

The biggest challenge I have faced is with managing the invoicing and the bookkeeping side of things. I think because pressure washing is my expertise but not accounting but I am slowly getting there and I might even hire a bookkeeper in the near future.

Biggest Success

I think the biggest success is being able to kind of get ahead with finances and just being able to work for myself. The financial independence and the flexibility to spend more time with family are definitely the biggest successes for me.

Biggest Change

Flexible timings and financial stability are two positive changes that my family and I are enjoying after starting this business. I feel that I have a better work life balance now as compared to before when I was doing a full-time job.

Future Goals

In the future, my goal is to achieve a better balance in my business, avoiding the constant grind. I aim to acquire more equipment, specifically a second pressure cleaning machine to handle larger tasks. Additionally, I plan to hire an employee who can assist me when multiple jobs come in. To finance the purchase of the new cleaning machine, I intend to reapply for a loan with Many Rivers.
