Maria’s Business Update since 2022
When we last chatted with Maria in April 2022, she had recently launched her business only two months back on 22nd February 2022. Being a plus-sized woman herself, Maria was eager to bring a positive change in the clothing and accessories industry by making pre-loved fashion available for curvy women. The inspiration behind Maria’s business idea was that plus-sized women have very limited options when it comes to the latest fashion, clothing, or accessories.
“To be honest, having a positive impact on the plus-size community is my biggest success. I feel so encouraged and overwhelmed when I get messages from women thanking me for making plus-sized clothing options easily available for them and for making them feel comfortable in their own skin.”
Biggest Change
Well to be honest, the biggest change in my life is running a one-man or you could say one-woman show. I feel that I have really changed myself after starting this business by putting myself out there. I feel more confident and proud of myself for pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I was not into social media at all before, but for the sake of my business, I have become active on social media to promote my brand. There’s only so much you can do for your business when it’s only you in the start. Sometimes, I also struggle to find the right balance between my personal and professional life. With my personal life, household and kids, it is not so easy to take time out for my business. I do not have the resources to hire new people at the moment, but I have engaged Australian influencers to promote my brand/products and to increase my followers, engagement and overall traffic on my website.

Well to be honest, the biggest change in my life is running a one-man or you could say one-woman show. Biggest challenge since you launched your business?
Since my business is still in the initial years of growth, it has been financially challenging for me to manage my business expenses and profits. I had the goal to re-invest all profits back into my business so that my business continues to grow, but due to the rising inflation, I end up spending most of my business income on household requirements. My business is encountering speed bumps at the moment, but hopefully it will continue to grow because I am very proud of my consistent efforts with social media marketing.
What do you hope to achieve in the future?
As a future goal, I would like to start making my own clothes and recycle something old and make it into something new. Maybe I would like to have a storefront if it becomes financially feasible. At the moment, I know that my business is facing hurdles, but I am not worried that my business will collapse. For now, it might be a bit slow, but it will continue to grow because it is not a short-term but a lifetime business for me. I am very passionate about my business and I will continue to offer pre-loved clothing and fashion options to plus-sized women.
What has been the biggest success to date?
“To be honest, having a positive impact on the plus-size community is my biggest success. I feel so encouraged and overwhelmed when I get messages from women thanking me for making plus-sized clothing options easily available for them and for making them feel comfortable in their own skin.”
Besides this, I feel that my business has significantly evolved over the course of one year because I have been very consistent with social media marketing. I feel that I have really put myself out there to promote my brand by modelling my clothes and accessories on a regular basis.
