Meet Markus Blake, the small business owner of the “Kandy House” in Adelaide, SA. He found his business in February 2023 and since then it has become Adelaide’s biggest candy shop selling imported lollies, chocolates, snacks, and drinks 🍭 🎉. The store has got over 2000 lines of sweets from across the globe – South America, Malaysia, Japan and of course Australia too. Besides gaining so much popularity in Adelaide, Kandy house has attracted a huge client base from as far as Mackay, Queensland and as far as Tasmania.

Markus’s Business
My business is a candy store that sells imported candies, chocolates, snacks, and drinks from all over the world in one place. I have a physical store in Adelaide along with an online presence which allows candy lovers to order their favourite candies online. My store is fully loaded with sweet treats from all over the world, including confectionery that you wont find anywhere else in Adelaide. We have got more than 2000 lines of sweets from across the world.
What were you doing before you made contact with Many Rivers?
I was a chef by trade for many years.
Why did you want to go into business?
I have been selling lollies as a side hustle and when I noticed the high demand for imported candies in Australia, I decided to open my own candy store.

I found out about Many Rivers through “The Circle” in Adelaide.
I received assistance with book-keeping, business plan, cashflow forecast from my Many Rivers, business coach.

Did you get a loan from MR? How did you use the loan?
No yet but I might consider a loan at a later stage when I plan to further grow my business.
Do you have any current employees? If so, how many employees? Are they full-time or part-time?
No, it’s a family-run business.
Biggest Challenge
Just understanding the business side of things – book-keeping, accounting and all the technical stuff have been a challenge.
Biggest Success
Just all the new products that we are able sell are a success for us. Selling weird and wacky candies that Australia doesn’t offer generally. We are still in the growing phase at the moment so more success is yet to come.
Biggest Change
We are now able to choose our own hours of working. It has given us so much more flexibility with family time.
Future Goals
For now, we want to make our business bigger by adding more types of candy and opening an American café next month. In the long run, we aim to turn it into a franchise that spans across different states in Australia.
