Meet Nini, the small business owner of Permanence Aesthetic, an Electrolysis Hair Removal and Cosmetic Tattoo service in Sydney, NSW .
Permanence Aesthetic was established in November 2022, a year in the making after Nini purchased a top-of-the-line machine to establish an alternative hair removal solution to laser. With Electrolysis Hair Removal and Cosmetic Tattooing fairly new to the Australian market, Nini hopes to establish a practice that provides the highest-quality standard for these emerging cosmetic treatments. Nini’s business coach, Garry, has supported her growing business with both business suggestions and referral to legal advice.
“Just the little suggestions, ‘you can do this or you can do that’. Every suggestion Garry gives me is appreciated. When you have no one, it’s good to have someone you can talk to about your ideas and get simple advice to improve.”

Meet Nini
I opened my business in November 2022, so it’s just been operating for a few months. My business is an Electrolysis Hair Removal and Cosmetic Tattoo service called Permanence Aesthetic based in St Ives in Sydney.
Electrolysis is the only effective method of permanent hair removal for all skin types, but it isn’t as well known in Australia as it is in the rest of the world. Laser is quite popular here, but it can’t be used on dark skin, red hair or grey hair, and doesn’t always remove hair permanently so electrolysis is a great option for everyone.
The other part of my business is Cosmetic Tattooing which is great for people who have lost their hair or eyebrows, need to boost the pigment in their lips or women recovering from breast cancer.
I noticed a gap in the market because there aren’t many Cosmetic Tattooists in Australia, and the closest one I could find was using a really old machine. I made sure I had the most advanced machine available in the world. I ordered it from Canada and it took a year to arrive. I completed my training in Melbourne and have all the relevant qualifications. I currently work as a dental assistant as my main job which finances my business that I run part-time.
There were moments when I was struggling financially, and I came across the Many Rivers website. When I saw that you provide business advice as well as financial support, I thought to myself, ‘this is amazing, this is what I need!’ I am a single mother living off a dental assistant income, and I wanted to do something for me to improve myself and my situation. I split from my ex-husband 2 years ago, and from my experiences in life, I have become strong and independent.
Working with Many Rivers
I received business coaching and it’s been really helpful. Garry helped me with some legal things, but I have had so much support from him. I’m renting a room in a salon so Garry referred me to a woman that helped with the legal contracts. Just the little suggestions, ‘you can do this or you can do that’. Every suggestion Garry gives me is appreciated. When you have no one, it’s good to have someone you can talk to about your ideas and get simple advice to improve. I considered getting a loan, but I managed to sort out my finances myself. It’s currently just me working on the business part-time.
Biggest Challenge
The biggest challenge has been doing everything myself. I moved to Australia six years ago and I am now a single mother. All of my family live in New York, so I am doing everything myself. I needed to attend training in Melbourne, so I needed to figure out a way to do that and bring my boy with me because I couldn’t leave him that long. It’s also been difficult financially. The machine I bought was $20,000 but the distributor allowed me to pay it off in instalments.
Biggest Success
My biggest success was to sort everything out financially. It might not be a success to some people, but for me it was a great success because it was a big risk for me to do everything myself. Sometimes people say to me ‘are you sure you want to do this, how are you going to do this in your position?’ I just thought that it’s better to do something than nothing. A dental assistant’s wage only pays for food and rent. That’s so boring, that’s not how I want to live my life.
Even if it’s not successful, at least I know I tried. I know it will take time to grow the business, it will take time until it gets recognised.
Biggest Change
Once the business starts to grow, I’ll be in a better financial position to live a better life. I’ll be independent and in charge of my own future.
Future Goals
I want to be an example of a powerful, strong woman to women and mums who think they can’t do things and have to be dependent on their husbands for money. My ex-husband was the main source of income for our household and made it difficult for me to pursue education, a career and even normal things like driving. I already have so many experiences to share, I want women to know that they can do everything, and they don’t need a man to reach their goals and succeed!
