Today we are talking with Richard and Kristijan who have started their own floor cleaning business in the South West Region of Western Australia.
Jadestone Floor Cleaning Solutions is a one-stop-shop for all floor cleaning business, offering residential, commercial and industrial property improvement solutions. As well as their high quality service, Jadestone Floor Cleaning Solutions believes in a green planet and uses hot water and high pressure to reduce their chemical use by 98%.
“I am a fitter and machinist by trade and I spent years in the hydraulic industry, but after moving down to Busselton I found work was a bit slow, so I ended up carpet cleaning and met Kristijan on the job. When he was let go because there was not enough work, we decided to go out on our own.”
Meet Richard and Kristijan
When we decided to start the business, I did the NEIS program because we were starting from the beginning. For both of us it was the first time being self-employed and we wanted to get off to the right start. The course was really good to help us with the stepping stones to get going.

Many Rivers has been the best mentoring we have ever received in our lives! Trish is absolutely amazing; she is a machine with so much knowledge! We both felt really warm with her – like she is our second mum! The quality of support we have received from Many Rivers has been outstanding. Trish goes out of her way to help.
Trish is the type of person you feel you can call on the weekend with any type of problem. She is personable, friendly and genuine and has so much knowledge because she has done so much stuff in her life, so she has an answer for everything. And if she doesn’t have the answer, she will find it! She is easy to get along with and knows what she is talking about. We really trust her so much, so that even when we are creating something, like a tender or something to do with our logo, we usually go back and double check with her.
Biggest Success
We are very proud of Jadestone. Money-wise, things are doing well. Our reputation around town is really good and it is great to hear that. The customers are satisfied as well. Customer satisfaction means a lot to us, so if they not happy we will go back and fix it so that they are satisfied.
Biggest Challenge
Probably juggling finance and cash flow, as some weeks are good and some are bad. I have a large family so I have a lot of responsibility. I feel more comfortable now – there’s a lot going on but it feels like things are on the right track.
I’ve never thought we made the wrong decision. I reckon it’s one of the best things I have ever done. The family has noticed a difference too; I have more time with the kids now than I did previously.
We’ve decided if there is a hole in our finances, one of us will take a job and the other will run the business on the side so that we can keep things going.
Future Goals
In the short-term, we want to grow as a company and start employing people and creating jobs in our community. But our dream and vision for Jadestone is way bigger and we will give everything to achieve our future dreams.
